Heather's Preemie Journey in honor of March of Dimes

Our community is honoring the stories of our own Mamas within Our Village. Today, we highlight Heather Kahler's preemie journey with her children. We are so grateful for Heather to share with us her stories. Please join us on Saturday, April 27th for the Portland March for Babies walk and/or make a donation to our teams fundraising effort here.

Heather's Story:

Ainsley was born at 28 weeks & 2 days, after a brief hospital stay and failed attempt to stop labor. She was 2lbs 12oz & 15 inches long. She spent 63 days in the NICU. — Now she’s a happy, healthy, thriving 8 year old!

Our second daughter, Audrey, was born early, on August 16, 2013 and passed away due to complications of prematurity. We miss her each and every day.

Adelaide, was born at 36 weeks on November 24, 2015. She’s now a strong-willed, healthy, happy 3 year old.

Our story is layered, brutal, and beautiful. Advice for others in a similar situation is you are not alone and you are not to blame. Look for support from other preemie and/or loss moms/dads.

And as for loss, it won’t necessarily get easier, but it will change and you will move forward. There are lots of great online support groups and magazines.
