Mama Highlight: Rachel Helling

How long have you been a part of F4M & what got you started?

I tried out a Fit4Baby class at the end of my pregnancy in Summer 2017 and then joined Stroller Strides in the fall of 2017 when Cece was 5 weeks old, it's been such a fun time getting to know other mamas in the area!

Names & ages of your children? Share one fun thing about each!

Cecilia - 16 months - She's a curious, outgoing redhead who loves to talk and meet new people - and freaks out over "The Wiggles". And "little nubbin" - a little over 3 months in utero - enjoys making mom crave peaches in the winter, feel nauseous all day and go to bed at 6:30 pm.

Who is your spouse? How long have you been together?

Max, we met a little over 10 years ago in my freshman college dorm. We were friends in college and started dating after he came back from the Peace Corps in 2013.

Before joining our village and before having children, what kept you busy?

Lots of trips to the beach to go clamming and crabbing! We still get out there but this time with grandparents to babysit! :)

What are 3 words a good friend would use to describe you?

honest, positive, quick-witted

Why are you passionate about FIT4MOM?

I think the most valuable part of Fit4Mom is the community. Anyone can pay for a gym membership but what keeps me coming back to Fit4Mom are the friends. I remember being surprised one day as I noticed my toned arm thinking, "Woah, how did that happen?" Then I realized "Oh yeah, I was exercising during my socialization hour."

Tell us how Motherhood changed you?

Makes me understand my parents so much more, makes me so thankful for my spouse and it makes me realize me how capable I am.

Why should a new mom join FIT4MOM Cedar Mill:

The community. I've literally told that to so many moms - anyone can pay for a gym membership but you're probably not going to get a community of mom friends who all live close to you. Especially with opportunities and events to get to know other moms even better - I think it's invaluable.
